Developing fine motor skills

Fine motor skills are worked on as a group through a series of tasks put together to meet each child’s fine motor aims and through games and activities which continue to develop these skills. Through fine motor tasks and activities a range of skills are developed:

  • Developing an open hand position and clapping
  • Isolation and separation of individual fingers/thumbs
  • Extension/flexion and rotation of wrists
  • Clasping hands
  • Developing pincer grasp and flicking
  • Developing skills opening and closing buttons, zips, poppers and laces
  • Opening and closing tubs, bags, food packets and twist top bottles
