Self care skills – Tooth brushing, hand/face washing and hair brushing
During sessions your child will take an active part in everyday self care activities before and after eating and after toileting such as washing and drying their hands, cleaning their teeth and washing their face. With the older age groups hair brushing and learning to toe bobbles and clip in clips is also an important self care activity. Depending on age and ability the children will either make their way to the bathroom to wash and dry their hands or wash them at the table. During fine motor programmes these self care activities are broken down and fine motor skills are developed enabling progression in the functional self care skill itself. Taking part in and developing self care skills develops:
- self esteem and confidence
- a sense of control in everyday activities
- develops specific fine motor skills
- develops planning and co-ordination of movements
- hand eye co-ordination
- learning body/facial parts
- general independence in self care activities
